Benejúzar
The first human settlements in the term of Benejúzar go back to the time of the Old Bronze (1800-1500 BC) being a deposit in the top of Cabezo Mojón. This location is not accidental, because in the vicinity there are soils of loam and gypsum that allow to retain the water and arise springs necessary for agriculture.
During the Iberian period, VI-II a. J.C., to find in the sierra a small settlement, whose main dedication was the latifundio and possibly forced to serve as mercenaries to Carthaginians and Romans.
The History of Benejúzar is closely linked to our region; La Vega Baja del Segura, and in particular the history of the city of Orihuela to which it belonged until the first third of the seventeenth century.
Benejúzar has its origin in an Arab city -Bani Yusuf- (descendants of José), on the left bank of the river Segura.
