The president of the Consortium, Manuel Pineda, thanks the Ministry of Environment for the 2.5 million euros invested in the facilities
The restoration and sealing works in the old landfill located partly in the Oriolan hamlet of La Murada will end around the month of April. This was stated today in a visit by the Minister of Agriculture, Climate Change and Rural Development, Elena Cebrián, who has been accompanied by the general director of Environmental Quality, Joan Piquer, the regional secretary of Environment, Francisco Javier Quesada and the president of the Vega Baja Sustainable Consortium, Manuel Pineda.
The total investment will exceed 2.5 million euros in the various works that have been carried out during the legislature and that are still underway. In this sense Cebrián has assured that “this supposes to close a very black episode of the bad management in matter of waste”. In this regard the councilor explained that “we are making efforts to seal the vessels of the landfill and, on the other hand, transform waste management in the region of Vega Baja.” The head of the Generalitat recalled that the Consorcio Vega Baja Sostenible has proceeded to the acquisition of ecoparks, provision of containers and new lines of management in order to comply with European regulations.
The councilor thanked the effort that has been made from the Vega Baja Sustainable Consortium and its president, Manuel Pineda, as well as all the mayors and councilors who “have been working to reverse the situation of waste in the region ·, since “At last, we will have a transfer plant temporarily,” he said.
Regarding the work done, Cebrián explained that “it has been done in phases and over three years, in which leachates have also been treated with specific management.” Cebrián also recalled that the Generalitat transfers the invoices of the work done to the courts since the Autonomous Administration is personda in the judicial processes that are pending in relation to the exploitation as landfill of these facilities.
The president of the Consorcio Vega Baja Sostenible, Manuel Pineda, explained that in the Alicante area they will invest a total of more than two and a half million euros and thanked the councilor for the contribution of the Generalitat and its involvement in solving a environmental problem such as the dump of La Murada. Pineda said that “this should become a center of interpretation of what should never happen again.”
Once the works corresponding to the sealing of the vessels are completed, a project will be drawn up to maintain and monitor the area and that leachates and gas emissions will not be produced.
