The entity Ecoembes, which has administrative authorization as manager of an Integrated Management System (SIG), has released the data collected in 2015 and which shows that the municipalities of the Vega Baja recycled 4,500 tons of light packaging and paper. paperboard. The objective of the entity is to encourage the improvement of citizen input and increase the rates of separate collection of light packaging and paper-cardboard.
As for the light containers in specific container, the total amount collected in the Vega Baja was 1,634,347 kilos, a contribution of 4.5 kilos per inhabitant per year. Among the municipalities that collected more containers are Torrevieja with 409,810 kilos, Orihuela with 358,620 and Guardamar del Segura with 223,520.
On the other hand, the collection of paper-cardboard in specific containers has meant a total of 2,921,400 kilos, an average of 7.8 kilos per inhabitant per year. Among the municipalities that have recycled more paper-cardboard are Torrevieja with 1,227,680 kilos, Orihuela with 379,570 and Guardamar del Segura with 354,077.
Of the municipalities of the Vega Baja there are three of those that still do not have data since, for example, Algorfa is in process of adhesion to the Framework Agreement, and Formentera del Segura and Rojales have joined in 2016. According to the Ecoembes data, and in terms of light packaging, the Valencia Region is far below what would be expected, taking into account the production of waste and the tourist increase.
The president of the Vega Baja Sustainable Consortium, Manuel Pineda, has assured that he will maintain “a meeting with Ecoembes so that in all the municipalities of the region there are enough containers so that the recycling is increasing”.
Pineda explained that these data “give us a vision of where we are and what we have to aspire to, which is to recycle most of the waste that we generate, since
