The Vega Baja Sostenible Consortium already has the initial approval of the technical commission on the eco-park management project of the Vega Baja. This plan, which still has several administrative procedures, includes twelve fixed and five mobile installations that will complement the transfer plants that are developed in the region.
The feasibility study of the project includes a network of fixed ecoparks that would be located in Torrevieja, Orihuela, Redován, Rojales, Orihuela Costa, Almoradí, Pilar de la Horadada, Catral, Guardamar del Segura, Benejúzar, San Miguel de Salinas and Los Montesinos . In addition to these, there are also five mobile ecoparks with a computerized management system, network information and user identification and control.
The fixed ecoparks are of two types according to the number of population they will attend. In Los Montesinos and San Miguel de Salinas, type C ecoparks will be installed to serve a potential population of 5,001 to 10,000 inhabitants. Of these two localities, only Los Montesinos has provided the plot for its location, while in the case of San Miguel, a fixed eco-park is contemplated in the project in a typical plot pending the City Council to provide a new one.
As for type D eco-parks, they will serve a population of more than 10,000 inhabitants. All the town councils have provided plots to host a fixed eco-park, waiting for Pilar de la Horadada and Orihuela to do the same (meanwhile the project proposes the installation in a typical plot).
On the other hand, mobile eco-parks will be based in the fixed eco-park of Torrevieja, two of them in Orihuela and one in Benejúzar. With the implementation of a computer system, it is intended to record the data collected and improve management, in addition to carrying out tasks of communication and public awareness with real data.
The technical commission initially approved this ecoparks network management project that will allow the selective collection of certain domestic, dangerous and non-hazardous waste that should not be taken to traditional containers. Once it is published in the Official Gazette of the Province, there will be a period of 15 working days for the allegations and then it would have to be approved definitively. In order to do this, certain conditions and recommendations that the technical committee has made to the project must also be taken into account. These have to do with the review of the economic-financial study of the project or develop the plan charged to the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) grant, through one or more calls until 2023.
Investments and costs
The eco-park management project of the Vega Baja Sostenible Consortium has included investments worth six million euros. They are 4,497,939 euros which would cost the twelve fixed ecoparks contemplated and 1,128,000 euros for the four mobile ecoparks. The fifth was acquired by the Consorcio Vega Baja Sostenible and launched on December 10. The mobile eco-park is having a good acceptance and also brings the visit to the municipalities of an environmental educator that solves the doubts of those who come to recycle. The objective of the regional entity is to increase recycling among citizens and meet the objectives set by the European Union.
