The document is “fundamental” to request the ERDF funds and to finance a plan that will mark in the future the global management of waste
The Vega Baja Sustainable Consortium has today approved the eco-park management project of the Vega Baja in plenary session. The plan includes twelve fixed and five mobile installations that will complement the transfer plants that are developed in the region. “This project is fundamental for the Vega Baja, because with it we can already present ourselves to the convocation of the FEDER funds and start up the rest of the ecoparks we need”, explained the consortium’s president, Manuel Pineda.
The feasibility study of the project includes a network of fixed ecoparks that would be located in Torrevieja, Orihuela casco, Redován, Rojales, Orihuela Costa, Almoradí, Pilar de la Horadada, Catral, Guardamar del Segura, Benejúzar, San Miguel de Salinas and Los Montesinos . In addition to these, five mobile ecoparks are also included, with a computerized management system, network information and user identification and control.
The fixed ecoparks are of two types according to the number of population they will attend. In Los Montesinos and San Miguel de Salinas type C ecoparks will be installed to serve a potential population of 5,001 to 10,000 inhabitants. As for type D eco-parks, they will serve a population of more than 10,000 inhabitants. On the other hand, mobile eco-parks will be based in the fixed eco-park of Torrevieja, two of them in Orihuela and one in Benejúzar. With the implementation of a computer system, it is intended to record the data of the collected waste and improve management, in addition to carrying out tasks of communication and citizen awareness with real data.
Pineda explained that there are several calls for the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) until 2023 and up to three million euros. “With this project we laid the foundations for the future management of waste in the region, and we already have, on the one hand, a projected transfer plant and the network of ecoparks,” the president assured.
Investments and costs
The eco-park management project of the Vega Baja Sostenible Consortium has included investments worth six million euros. Are 4,497,939 euros which would cost the twelve fixed ecoparks contemplated and 1,128,000 euros the four mobile ecoparks. The fifth was acquired by the Consorcio Vega Baja Sostenible and launched on December 10. The mobile eco-park is having a good acceptance and also brings the visit to the municipalities of an environmental educator that solves the doubts of those who come to recycle. The objective of the regional entity is to increase recycling among citizens and meet the objectives set by the European Union.
