The Consorcio Vega Baja Sostenible has presented its Environmental Communication Plan, which will be developed in the 27 municipalities of the region during the coming months and aims to raise awareness among citizens about the importance of their collaboration in the separation at source of the waste. The plan is divided into several points and an identity has been designed to identify the campaign with the motto ‘What unites us’, in relation to sustainable and responsible waste management in the Vega Baja. As explained by Natalia Amorós, representative of Ecosilvo, the company in charge of the plan, the objective is “to give the Consortium the need to unite the entity with the citizens”.
On the one hand, a direct marketing campaign will be developed with actions in markets and shopping centers, as well as actions directed and focused on children. Several actions will be carried out in the municipalities depending on the number of inhabitants. Four actions in those municipalities with more than 25,000 inhabitants, two in those with between 10,000 and 25,000 inhabitants and one in those with less than 10,000 inhabitants. In total 78 actions will be carried out at street level in the Vega Baja with the aim of reaching all the neighbors of the region. For this there will be an environmental educator who will teach the citizens the separation and to deposit the waste correctly, as well as to raise awareness about healthy habits, responsible consumption and environmental problems that result from poor management of household waste.
Likewise, two informative days addressed to the general public will be held, which is scheduled to take place in March. There will also be a technical conference in June.
Scholarship for the Master to the best student
On the other hand, the Vega Baja Sostenible Consortium will sign a collaboration agreement with the Miguel Hernández University (UMH). Specifically, the framework agreement would be with the Polytechnic School of Orihuela (EPSO). The objective is to be able to participate in some of the seminars or talks that take place from the university to also attract the educational community, since the UMH is studying the Master’s degree in management research, treatment and recovery of organic waste. In addition, also with the UMH the Consortium will allocate a grant ‘Consorcio Vega Baja Sostenible’ that will be awarded to the best academic record that wants to take the master.
All the actions of the plan and of the campaign at street level aim to involve all administrations, the education sector and citizens. The consortium will communicate all the actions carried out to reach as many people as possible. In this direction, the president of the Consortium, Manuel Pineda, explained that “awareness and awareness of the issue of recycling is necessary, since in 2020 we should recycle 50% of the containers and the Vega Baja is well below that percentage ”
The Environmental Communication Plan also includes a children’s contest, aimed at primary school children. The students will make toys or objects with recycled and reused materials. To these objects they will make a photo that they will have to upload to the Consortium website through a form. The prizes are a stay at Terra Mítica, sports equipment and wireless speakers.
